Communities for Children Burnie

“Burnie as a community supports its babies & young children to have the best possible start in life to enhance their future health & well-being”

The Communities for Children is funded by the Australian Government under the Stronger Families & Communities Strategy. The Burnie initiative is one of 45 sites across Australia.

The Burnie programme covers the area of the Burnie Municipality.

The Australian Government has provided funding of $2.2m over 4 years.
Presently we have 5 community partners who are delivering 12 activities in the Burnie municipality.

Project Priorities

There are five priorities that Communities for Children is seeking to address:

Healthy Young Families;
Supporting Parents and Families;
Early Learning and Care;
Child Friendly Communities; and
Quality Services

How it Works

Centacare Tasmania is the facilitating partner for the Burnie initiative. A community Consultative Committee consisting of local parents and carers, community representatives, service providers and government provides advice and makes recommendations to Centacare.
In collaboration, the committee and Centacare have developed a Community Strategic Plan
and a Service Delivery Plan these documents form the basis for the delivery of activities for
Children 0-5 in Burnie and for achieving positive outcomes in all 5 of the priority areas.
